I have been using Evans since I was 11 and it was love at first hit ! The consistency and versatility is what I really dig. It doesn't matter if I am doing a session with a singer/songwriter or a funk/fusion/drum n' bass thing, Evans is right there night after night and session after session. And the Speedball beaters are just amazing !

An Evans Drumheads player since 2009.

Andy Shoniker started his love affair with the drums at a very young age. Banging on anything he could get his hands on be it pots, pans or his little sisters head. It was clear that drums were his calling. By the time Andy was in high school he was playing professionally around Toronto and began his touring career. At the same time he was involved in his schools orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and drum corps. At this point in his life he was mainly into playing rock, progressive rock, and fusion music. Later in high school he discovered the music Miles Davis, John Coltrane, The Meters, and Frank Zappa. His life changed at that point, he began practicing and transcribing like a man possessed, eventually composing complex compositions for drum ensembles. In 1998 at the urging of his father, he applied to Berklee College of Music and he was accepted shortly after and was awarded the World Tour Scholarship.

At Berklee his life changed forever, music took a on a whole new meaning in Andy's life. He had the opportunity to study with some of his heroes, play with amazing musicians, and play countless recording sessions and local tours in the New England area and the North East.. While at Berklee, Andy started to listen heavily to funk, modern jazz, Afro-Cuban, and other forms of world music. He was a mad man, sometimes practicing up to 14 hours a day. He had the great opportunity to study with some of the world's leading drummers including Rod Morgenstein, Dave Dicenso, Mike Mangini, Kenwood Dennard, and Steve Wilkes, just to name a few.

After Berklee and a brief stint in New York, Andy returned to Toronto where he has been an active player around the city. His playing has continued to evolve with the addition of Drum 'n' Bass, Trance, Ambient, Hip-Hop, and other "electronic" forms of music. He has since been an active touring musician North America as well as Europe. He is currently playing, teaching, and recording in Toronto.

In 2004, he finished writing his first method book titled "Modern Concepts" which has been well received by such drummers as Keith Carlock, Robby Ameen, Rod Morgenstein, Jojo Mayer, Ari Hoenig, Anton Fig, and many other leading drummers around the world. Some of the subjects covered include "metric modulated drum n' bass", "multi layered grooves" "constant rate using compound sticks" and "compound time signatures" He has begun work on 2 more books, one on drum 'n' bass that promises to be the standard on the subject. Some of the topics covered include 2-5 bar phrases(around 10000! ) and drum n' bass with left foot clave/cascara. The other is a new system of groove that will generate endless amounts of groove and control.. He is currently working with several live acts including a new jazz/fusion trio entitled Guys with Bangs, a electronic trio entitled Fraction, playing drums for Kobe James(K-OS, Esthero) and several singer songwriters. Look for Andy on a big tour sometime soon!

Andy also continues to be an active teacher in Toronto, teaching some of the cities top players including Dan Cornelius of Danko Jones and Jay Lioumanis of The Mudmen
